FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina police continue looking for clues in the off-base shooting death of a Fort Bragg soldier from Illinois.
Fayetteville police they found Pfc. Chad Patrick Dellit lying between two cars near a hotel. He had been shot in the head. Fort Bragg said Friday that the 22-year-old Dellit was from Fulton, Ill., and enlisted in September 2008.
Police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said Sunday investigators are following leads from a 911 call about two hours earlier on Wednesday in which someone reported hearing gunshots in the same area. The caller reported seeing someone running behind a nearby toy store.
Fort Bragg officials said Dellit completed advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., to be a geospatial engineer. He was assigned to Fort Bragg’s 20th Engineer Brigade.
